Wright joins Boro
Alan Wright in action for former club Aston Villa
Wright will link up with former Villa team-mates Southgate and Ehiogu
Middlesbrough have completed their move for former Aston Villa full-back Alan Wright.

The 31-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a one-year deal and becomes manager Steve McClaren's second signing of the summer.

He will now battle veteran Colin Cooper for the left-back spot, with Frenchman Franck Queudrue suspended for the first five games of the new campaign and young deputy David Murphy recovering from a broken bone in his foot.

Wright was offered a trial by Boro after being released by Villa, and was on his way to the club's training headquarters when he received a call alerting him to interest from Rangers.

But after barely a day in Glasgow, he returned to England citing personal reasons, and took up McClaren's offer.

Wright, who will join former Villa team-mates Gareth Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu in Boro's defence, has played in all their pre-season friendlies.

And he has done enough to persuade his new manager he can still perform in the Premiership.

Wright joins Brazilian Doriva, who had a spell on loan at the Riverside Stadium last season, as the club's only new signings of pre-season.

Meanwhile, the Teessiders have announced the former Celta Vigo star will again wear the number 20 shirt in the upcoming season.
