Boro to sign Derby duo
Derby's Chris Riggott (left) and Malcolm Christie tangle with Charlton's Scott Parker

Middlesbrough have agreed a deal with Derby for Malcolm Christie and Chris Riggott.

Steve McClaren's Boro were one of several Premiership clubs linked with Christie, who joined Derby from Nuneaton Borough for 50,000.

And he was also strongly linked with Riggott as he looks to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes on 31 January.

Speaking after his team's 5-2 home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Tuesday, McClaren admitted he was keen to bring both players to the club.

"We are trying to get them - and you could see why against Villa," said McClaren.

"Nothing is concrete, nothing is certain and we cannot say anything else until they are our players."

McClaren would not reveal whether the deal that has been struck for the duo is permanent or a loan deal with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

Both Christie and Riggott were in the stands at the Riverside for the Villa tie.
