Mansfield Town ovation was special - Rhys Day

Rhys Day
Day has scored 12 league goals in his Mansfield career

Mansfield Town's on-loan defender Rhys Day says the welcome he received from the club's supporters gave him a very special feeling.

The 28-year-old, who is in his second spell with the club, made his return in last weekend's draw with Darlington.

Day told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's brilliant to be back and the supporters were excellent.

"I am glad the fans were like that with me and it gave me a little tingle if I am honest."

Day, who began his career at Manchester City, first joined Mansfield on loan in November 2002, before the move became permanent two months later.

After leaving the Stags for Aldershot, Day signed for Oxford in the summer of 2009 and is initially at Field Mill until January.

The Welsh-born defender received a special ovation from Stags' supporters when his name was read out before the game.

"Mansfield has got a special place in my heart and I am glad the fans appreciate that," added Day.

"For the short term I want to win as many games as I can and get this place where it should be, which is back in the Football League.

"I am still getting back from injury - hopefully if that injury can stay away and I keep putting in performances and the move is made full time, I want promotion."
