The Munich air disaster claimed the lives of eight United players - Roger Byrne, Billy Whelan, Tommy Taylor, Duncan Edwards, Mark Jones, Eddie Colman, Geoff Bent and David Pegg.
Fifteen others also died, including former Manchester City goalkeeper Frank Swift, who was then working as a journalist.
Two more United players, Johnny Berry and Jackie Blanchflower, had their careers ended by the injuries they suffered.
The United officials and players who survived are pictured here shortly after the tragic accident, minus the recovering Bobby Charlton and Matt Busby.
