Smith wants new Man Utd contract
Alan Smith

Manchester United striker Alan Smith wants a new contract at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old England international, who has successfully returned from a broken leg suffered in February 2006, has two years left on his current deal.

"I have a contract re-negotiation coming up," Smith said. "I was due to have talks last year but decided I wouldn't do that when I was injured.

"But now I am fit and ready to commit my future. I want to stay and talks should happen in the next few weeks."

Smith has scored 12 goals in 93 games for United since a 7m move from Leeds in May 2004.
