Scholes excited by Man Utd return
Paul Scholes
Scholes was ruled out of action in January with eye problems
Paul Scholes says he has not recovered fully from his eyesight problems - but he is looking forward to playing a key role for Manchester United next season.

The 31-year-old midfielder missed five months of last season with a blurred vision problem affecting his right eye.

"The eye is almost back to normal," said Scholes. "It's not 100% of what it was, but there's no problem as far as playing is concerned.

"It will take time to adjust to playing again, but I will be able to do that."

Winning the Premiership is more important than winning the Champions League for me

Paul Scholes

Scholes is regaining his fitness on United's tour of South Africa and featured in the 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday and against Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

He added: "Things are much better now and I'm really looking forward to the new season.

"I'm enjoying getting ready for it because for so long, I was doing virtually nothing and hardly any exercise. I just sat at home doing nothing."

The former England midfielder is also keen to halt Chelsea's dominance in the Premiership and believes that domestic honours will take preference over the Champions League.

He said: "We want to win the title every season and we want the title back.

"It isn't nice to see Chelsea pick the trophy up, so winning the Premiership is more important than winning the Champions League for me.

"The Champions League is big, but being English and with the Premiership being so massive, I think we have to concentrate on winning that."
