Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is facing a further two months on the sidelines because of a niggling Achilles tendon injury.
The 28-year-old striker has missed the last three games after aggravating the problem against West Brom.
Boss Sir Alex Ferguson had previously hoped he would return in January.
The Dutch striker is now looking at the first leg of the Champions League tie against AC Milan on 23 February for a possible return to the United team.
Ferguson said: ""We don't want to force him when we don't need to and we hope to have him for the AC Milan game.
More positively the United manager
is confident
United's other injured striker Louis Saha , who has been suffering from a knee problem, should be fit in the first weeks of January.
"I expect Louis Saha to be back by the middle of January, certainly no later than the end of the month."
