Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United's Wayne Rooney will play some part in the Champions League match against Fenerbahce on Tuesday.
"It is very exciting," the United boss told the Manchester Evening News.
"He has a chance of playing and it is a toss of the coin whether he will be on the bench or he will start the game.
"All the players wanted him to play at Tottenham but we wanted to give him a really good bit of training in order that he does not break down."
Striker Rooney joined United shortly before the transfer deadline on 31 August but had not recovered from the broken metatarsal he sustained during Euro 2004.
The 18-year-old has been back in training and is now ready to make his debut for the club.
"We left him to train really hard on Friday and then we
can make a decision on Monday," the United boss added.
"He has been great in training, he is a good player. He is a quiet boy but he
has not been overawed by coming here.
"He has been very good, excellent in fact
and we are very pleased with him.

Rooney is a fabulous player, two-footed, quick, aggressive, brave, good vision - he has got everything

"I honestly did not realise how good in the air he was until he came here.
"Of
course I have seen him head balls but it was the leap he has got which
surprised me.
"He is a fabulous player, two-footed, quick, aggressive, brave,
good vision he has got everything," he said.
Meanwhile, Ferguson was delighted after his team left Tottenham with a 1-0 win on Saturday.
"A lot of teams will come here and
drop points but we defended well," said the United manager.
"Tottenham have been rejuvenated this season and their fans were fantastic. This was a difficult game for us.
"The fans tried to influence the referee but he did his job well and there were no really contentious issues, just some hoo-ha."
