Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says his new signings will make a big impact after they helped seal a 2-1 win over Dinamo Bucharest.
Summer arrivals Alan Smith and Liam Miller both impressed the Scot on their competitive debuts for the club.
"Smith was a handful for the Dinamo defenders and has been a tremendous signing for us," Ferguson said.
"And Miller showed great assurance and confidence and did really well. He was a bonus for us."
Ferguson was without nine first-team players for the crucial Champions League qualifier.
But Smith - a £7m signing from Leeds - and 23-year-old Miller, who came on for Darren Fletcher, showed in Bucharest they will be useful additions to United's attack.
Ferguson's decision to switch captain Roy Keane from midfield to central defence and push John O'Shea forward as a holding midfielder also paid off.

"Roy's contribution was about his experience," explained Ferguson.
"The reason I played him there was to
give confidence to those around him.
"I felt we still needed a positive presence in midfield and apart from that O'Shea did very, very well on the ball for us."
Ferguson was also quick to praise the effort's of his makeshift team who will take a 2-1 advantage back to Old Trafford for the second leg on 25 August.
"You have to be pleased to win away in Europe. After a bad start for us it was very pleasing to recover and go on and win this match," said Ferguson.
"I'm pleased with the team and it gives us a great chance at Old Trafford."
