Keane: I should have punched Shearer
Roy Keane swings an arm at Alan Shearer before being sent off at St James' Park
Keane was sent off for "pushing" Shearer
Manchester United captain Roy Keane looks set to escape disciplinary action after admitting he wished he had punched Alan Shearer before being sent off at Newcastle last season.

Keane was shown a red card for pushing Shearer, who had wound up the volatile United skipper with his time-wasting tactics.

But the Irishman admits in his new video - Roy Keane: As I See It - that he wanted to punch the former England captain.

"I was sent off for pushing him (Shearer) - but if you're going to get sent off, you might as well punch him properly," Keane says. "It's the same punishment.

"You might as well get hung for a sheep as a lamb. It was just a push, though. Ridiculous."

Keane has already been banned for five games and fined 150,000 for revealing that he meant to hurt Manchester City`s Alfie Haaland in his autobiography.

But Football Association officials are unlikely to take action over the comments in his video.

"They have been looked at but in the wider context of what he has said, they have decided it doesn't warrant further investigation," said an FA spokesman. "We don't envisage there is any case to answer."

Keane has not played for United since he was dismissed for elbowing Sunderland's Jason McAteer at the end of August.

Currently serving his five-game ban, he is not expected to return to action until January after undergoing a hip operation.
