Duscher unrepentant over tackle
Pedro Duscher
Duscher was sent off in the second half
Argentine Pedro Duscher has refused to apologise for the tackle that looks to have ended David Beckham's World Cup hopes.

But the Deportivo La Coruna defender has insisted that the incident was not deliberate.

The England captain's left foot was broken in a two-footed tackled by the Deportivo defender, an injury that may have ended Beckham's season.

Because it is Beckham, everything is bigger and blown out of proportion
Pedro Duscher

The injury soured Manchester United's 3-2 victory at Old Trafford, which put them into the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The news will also come as a major blow to England coach Sven Goran Eriksson.

"It was unfortunate and bad luck but I honestly went for the ball," Duscher said.

However, the 23-year-old did send his best wishes to the United midfielder.

Duscher said he hopes Beckham makes it to the World Cup, where England will meet Argentina in the first group stage.

Duscher, who is unlikely to be in the Argentina squad, said: "I hope that he can be healthy in time for the World Cup."

The Deportivo player said that the incident had been blown out of proportion.

"I did not speak to Beckham and I don't need to speak to him.

"Why should I? If this had happened to a Deportivo player then nobody from Manchester United would speak to him.

"It is not necessary to talk to him. Because it is Beckham and a great player, everything is bigger and blown out of proportion.

"Everybody gives too much importance to the things that surround Beckham."
