Trapattoni eyes Man Utd
Trapattoni
Trapattoni has plenty of experience at the top
Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni has expressed an interest in taking over at Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson retires.

The former Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich boss is currently in charge of Italy's bid for World Cup glory next summer.

Trapattoni will be 63 by the time any move to Old Trafford could take place but he does not see that as a problem.

He said: "Even at my age, I do not think it is too late for me.

"United are a great club and I'd love to work with them and fight in the Premier League," he told the Daily Mail.

Track record

Trapattoni has a remarkable record, winning eight league titles, one European Cup, the Uefa Cup three times and the Cup Winners Cup.

He led Bayern Munich to the German Bundesliga title in 1997. His league successes in Italy came six times with Juventus and once with Inter Milan in Serie A.

The only blot on his career book is his spell with Calgiari, when he was dismissed before the Sardinian club's eventual relegation.

Most recently, his spell with Fiorentina saw him contest two Champions League campaigns, during which one of the Italian club's notable victories came at Wembley against Arsenal.

Trapattoni narrowly missed out on leading Fiorentina to their first championship triumph in Italy.

He is said, though, to have had his troubles behind the scenes at Fiorentina because his defensive tactics were not to everyone's liking.

As well as an impressive CV in management - which resulted in his tenure of the Italian side - Trappatoni has sampled the international stage as a player.

He was a left midfielder for club side AC Milan and, in accumulating 17 caps for Italy, Trapattoni's best performance for his country arguably came at his home ground at the San Siro.

He helped the Italians to a 3-0 win against a Brazil side including Pele.
