Van Gaal in Man Utd link
Van Gaal: Resigned as Dutch coach three weeks ago
Former Dutch coach Louis van Gaal has again been linked with becoming Manchester United's next manager.
Van Gaal, 50, resigned as manager of Holland three weeks ago following their failure to qualify for the 2002 World Cup. United are looking for a coach to replace Sir Alex Ferguson when he retires at the end of the season. Van Gaal is the only one of the high-profile coaches being considered who is not currently under contract.
United have made an early move because German side Hertha Berlin are keen to make Van Gaal their new boss, according to the report. Van Gaal was expected to return to former club Ajax when Co Adriaanse was sacked recently, but the job now looks likely to go to Ronald Koeman. Van Gaal's reputation was dented when Holland failed to qualify for the World Cup. But he created the last great Ajax side and led them to a European Cup win in 1995. He also reorganised Barcelona and led them to the Spanish title in each of his two years with them. And he himself has said: "I can imagine that a club like Manchester United would be interested in Louis van Gaal."
