Wanchope joins Royle family
Paulo Wanchope
Wanchope is set to be Royle's latest Maine man
Paulo Wanchope has told Manchester City that he will join the side in a 3.65m move from West Ham.

The Costa Rican international striker will meet City boss Joe Royle at a secret location to have a medical and finalise the four-year deal.

Manchester City boss Joe Royle was confident that Paolo Wanchope would sign for the Maine Road club, but the West Ham striker had been stalling on a decision, saying he wanted to talk to his family before committing to the move.

Explaining the delay in the completion of the transfer, Royle added: "He is a thoughtful lad and he just wanted to discuss the move with his family as he is very family orientated."

Major

Wanchope scored 23 goals in 72 league games for Derby before joining the Hammers for 3.5m last year.

He scored 12 league goals for the Upton Park club - but a move away was always on the cards once they signed Frederic Kanoute in a 4m deal from Lyon.

Wanchope will become City's third major signing of the summer, following the arrival of former World Footballer of the Year George Weah last week and the 2.5m signing of Alfie Haaland from Leeds.
