Manchester City loan Felipe Caicedo to Malaga

Caicedo has made only 10 Premier League starts for Manchester City

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has allowed striker Felipe Caicedo to join Spanish club Malaga on loan for the rest of the season.

Caicedo, 21, has been on loan at Sporting Lisbon since the summer but the Portuguese club decided not to pursue a permanent deal.

The move dashes the hopes of Hull City boss Phil Brown, who revealed he hoped to sign the Ecuadorian last week.

Caicedo joined City from FC Basel two years ago for a fee of about £5m.

City's summer spending spree, which included the arrival of strikers Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz, meant that Caicedo's first-team chances were limited at Eastlands.

Meanwhile, Mancini has dismissed speculation he was trying to recruit 34-year-old former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron in the transfer window.

"Veron is my friend. I played with him at Sampdoria, and at Lazio, and when I was the manager at Inter he played for me," Mancini told the club website.

"I called him just to say hello and as we talked I joked with Seba, 'If you want, you can come to play for City', but I was only joking and he knew that.

"He plays for Estudiantes and is very happy there. It was never a possibility for us."
