Manchester City have confirmed striker and Wales captain Craig Bellamy has a mild case of swine flu.

The striker who has also had a knee problem, missed Saturday's 2-1 victory over Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Midfielder Vladamir Weiss, who scored in City's recent Carling Cup win over Arsenal, has also contracted the virus.

But the club told BBC Manchester that both players will return to training on Thursday and should be available for Saturday's visit to Bolton.

"There is a little bit of it creeping into the camp," said City assistant boss Mark Bowen.

"Players come in every day with sniffles, coughs and colds and the doctor has to determine whether it is the onset of something more serious.

"It is his decision whether they have to be sent home."

Bellamy has been one of City's most influential players this season, scoring five goals in 15 appearances for Mark Hughes' team.

He and Weiss are not the first City players to be diagnosed with swine flu, defender Micah Richards having contracted the virus on holiday in July.

Blackburn Rovers have also been affected, with a spate of illnesses in October.
