Hughes hopeful of Robinho return

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes says Brazilian striker Robinho has a chance of returning to first-team action in the league at Liverpool on 21 November.

The former Real Madrid star has not played for City since injuring an ankle on international duty in September.

However, he has trained during City's break in Abu Dhabi and has flown to join with the Brazil squad ahead of their friendly with England in Qatar.

"I'd imagine the Liverpool game will be too close but we'll see," Hughes said.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has had mixed fortunes since joining City for over £32m in September 2008.

Last term he scored 15 goals despite rumours that he was unsettled in Manchester, but this season he has been restricted to only three appearances.

"He probably needs a couple of weeks to get up to speed before he is considered for selection," Hughes admitted.

If Robinho does not play at Anfield, he would probably face Hull at Eastlands the following week.

That would put him in contention to face Arsenal in the Carling Cup quarter-final on 2 December, with City targeting their first major silverware since they won the old League Cup in 1976.
