Amokachi set to join City
Daniel Amokachi
Amokachi celebrates a goal during his Everton days
Manchester City are set to sign Nigerian international Daniel Amokachi if he impresses in pre-season training with the club.

The 27-year-old former Everton striker is available on a Bosman free transfer from Turkish club Besiktas.

City boss Joe Royle managed Amokachi at Everton during his previous spell in England, when he played a major role in the Merseysiders' march to the 1995 FA Cup title.

Although Royle sold Amokachi the following season, he admits he never gave him the opportunity to display his full array of talent at Goodison Park.

"Daniel is a great player and a smashing person who would fit in extremely well at City," Royle said.

"He might not be prolific but he is strong and quick.

"There are still contractual implications over a possible move which would have to be ironed out with the Turkish club."

Amokachi has had a couple of minor operations recently, but Royle said the player was confident about his fitness.

Royle added: "He is very keen on the move and we are keen."
