Man City search for loan keeper

Joe Hart
Hart sustained his ankle injury during Sunday's draw at Hull

The Premier League has given Manchester City permission to sign a goalkeeper as a temporary replacement for Joe Hart, who was injured against Hull on Sunday.

Hart's ankle injury is not as bad as first feared and he will be out for two weeks rather than a month.

But City boss Mark Hughes' only fit back-up for Kasper Schmeichel is 18-year-old Norwegian Tobias Johansen.

Former Sweden goalkeeper Magnus Hedman said he had been approached to join City, but turned them down.

"We can bring a keeper in on loan so we will see what is out there as short-term cover," Hughes said.

"We will see who's available and see if it's worthwhile bringing anybody in."

Hedman, 35, claimed he had turned the club down as he feared he was not in the right condition.

"They want me to sit on the bench for this weekend's game (against Arsenal), but I need at least two weeks' training," Hedman told Swedish website Sportbladet.

"But my answer of no is not definitive. I need to think about it further."

Hedman, who played for Coventry between 1997 and 2002, spent a short period on loan at Chelsea in November 2006 but did not make a first-team appearance.

Hart, 21, limped off in the 2-2 draw at the KC Stadium after falling awkwardly when Daniel Cousin put Hull ahead in the first-half.

Hughes added: "He's likely to be out for a minimum of two weeks but when the injury first occurred we thought it was going to be substantially longer than that.

"Thankfully it's not as bad as we first thought because we did initially think it was ligament damage. That's not the case, so he will be back sooner than we feared, which is good news."

Along with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, Hart missed England's friendly against Germany on Wednesday after initially being called into the squad.

Hart has been an ever-present for Man City this season but will be absent for the visit of Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday and his side's trip to Schalke in the Uefa Cup on 27 November.
