Striker Andy Cole has completed his free transfer to Manchester City from Fulham on a two-year deal.
The 33-year-old has already joined his team-mates on their pre-season tour of Thailand and could play in Saturday's FA Premiership League Asia Trophy.
Cole is seen as a direct replacement for Jon Macken, who joined Crystal Palace last month.
"Andy has a top-class pedigree and I know our younger players can learn from him," City boss Stuart Pearce said.
Pearce has called for supporters to give their backing to the former England international, despite his time with rivals Manchester United.
Cole will add much-needed depth to City's attack where Robbie Fowler and Bradley Wright-Phillips are the only recognised forwards.
"Andy has played 100 games in the last three years and was sixth or seventh goal scorer last season when Fulham struggled," added Pearce.
Cole is only Pearce's second signing of the summer following the arrival of left winger Kiki Musampa.
