Manchester City utility-man Sun Jihai will join his team-mates on tour in Thailand on Monday after finally receiving a new work permit.
The 27-year-old was forced to stay at home in China when his application was delayed unexpectedly.
City have cut through the red tape, but with his side due to depart for Bangkok on Sunday, manager Stuart Pearce opted not to ask Jihai to fly to England.
Meanwhile, City have given a trial to Qatar midfielder Yasser Hussain, 23.
Hussain was recommended to the club by their former midfielder Ali Bernabia, a team-mate of Hussain's at Al Rayyan in Qatar.
Pearce said: "Ali was some player himself so you would expect him to know what it takes.
"We have invited the lad over to see how it goes and we will take it from there."
