Keegan reveals Premiership fears
Kevin Keegan
Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan feels the domination of the Premiership elite may lead to fans deserting the game.

"The top clubs are being financed through the Champions League. They get more television money and more from sponsors," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"For the West Broms and Norwiches in this world, it is tough and will be the same for whoever comes up this season.

"In four or five years there won't be much interest in the league. Fans will say it's not worth going to the games."

Keegan, who almost took Newcastle to the Premiership title a decade ago, added that it was unlikely a team coming up from the Championship would be able to challenge the best clubs.

We couldn't make that leap
Keegan on his side's European chances

"The days of Newcastle United, when we came up and claimed a top-three spot on more than one occasion during the 1990s, are finished," he said.

Keegan's Manchester City side lie in 12th position in the Premiership following Monday's 1-0 defeat to Bolton.

He said his hopes of his side ending the season in a European spot are fast diminishing.

"We've got a history of not building on good situations. We could have jumped into he European shake-up, again we couldn't make that leap," said Keegan.

"That's seven or eight times in a year we could have jumped into something good for this club and we've failed.

"Other times it was because we didn't have the luck, today it was because we weren't good enough."
