Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has pledged to repay manager Stuart Pearce's faith in him.
The midfielder's future at the club looked in jeopardy after he was sent home from a pre-season tour to Thailand after an incident with an Everton fan.
However, Pearce opted to fine Barton and send him on a course of lifestyle coaching at the Sporting Chance clinic.
Barton told the club website: "Stuart Pearce didn't have to do that. I hope I can repay him with my performances."
The 22-year-old has been in good form in City's first two games of the season and said he had been grateful for the fans' support.
"They have been different class," he said.
"I knew they would be because I know what they are like when you pull on that shirt.
"As long as you perform and give everything you have, they will accept you. You cannot ask for more than that."
