Schmeichel to undergo back scan
Man City keeper Peter Schmeichel
Schmeichel has had a furstrating time with injury
Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel will undergo a scan on his back to try and pinpoint the injury problems which have wrecked his season.

The Great Dane was forced to pull out of his emotional return to Manchester United after sustaining a calf muscle injury in the pre-match warm-up.

Schmeichel admitted that he was becoming demoralised by his constant battle for fitness.

City boss Kevin Keegan is hoping the combination of a few days rest, and the scan to identify the problem, will see his first-choice goalkeeper back in action for the Premiership clash with Chelsea on 22 February.

Peter will have a scan on his back because I think the problems may be coming from there

Man City boss Kevin Keegan

Keegan said: "He will have a few days off because he has been in the treatment room for s long.

"He will be back with us on Monday and will have a scan on his back because I think the problems may be coming from there.

"Sometimes these injuries flare up again with players.

"He had gone out onto the Old Trafford pitch wanting to play and within two or three minutes he felt his calf go again."
