Horton looking for new midfielder
By Paul Fletcher

Macclesfield boss Brian Horton is hopeful of boosting his squad
We have a tough start but I don't mind that

Brian Horton
Macclesfield manager Brian Horton wants to sign a new midfielder before the League Two season starts on 5 August.

"I'm still trying to bring a midfielder to the club and perhaps one other player," Horton told BBC Sport.

"I have a young squad, which I don't mind. I like working with young players and one, Jordan Hadfield, is already showing that he might force his way in.

"I'm saying to the players that we have to be positive. I have got some good players at this football club."

Horton is not a fan of pre-season and cannot wait for the season to start.

Macclesfield open their campaign with a trip to Darlington and follow that with home games against Hartlepool and Milton Keynes Dons.

"Pre-seasons never change," added Horton. "You don't want to get people hurt and though it is nice when you win pre-season games it is never that important.

"We have a tough start but I don't mind that. We seemed to play better against the so-called better teams last year."
