Macclesfield Town have allowed striker Neil Ross to join Northwhich Victoria on a month's loan.
But Town have failed in a bid to land Southend winger Steven Clarke on a similar basis.
Town boss David Moss was keen to add the pacey Clarke to his squad, but the move has been put on ice with Southend not currently prepared to allow the 21-year-old to leave Roots Hall.
Former Stockport frontman Ross, 21, joins the Vics with manager Steve Davis looking to boost his side's firepower and end a run of five straight defeats.
"We've let Neil go out on loan to help him get some games under his belt, Moss told Macclesfield's website.
"The Conference is a good level to play at and I'm hoping he will get a few goals to help his confidence and he will come back to us a better player."
Moss added: "There is certainly more to come from Neil Ross so I hope that this move will be a little kick-start to his career."
