Keen takes Macclesfield job
Macclesfield have named Kevin Keen as caretaker player-manager but Denis Irwin remains a potential target for the Third Division club.

Keen is taking over on a temporary basis following Gil Prescott's decision to step down from management and concentrate on his role as director of football.

The former West Ham and Wolves player's first game in charge will be away to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Chief executive Colin Garlick said: "We have appointed Kevin Keen for the near future. It is a temporary step while we look at our options.

"We may be bringing someone else in, but Kevin may want to be considered as well.

"We've had a number of applicants but have had no contact with Denis Irwin. We're not sure if we will in the future, that's up to him.

"If he makes an application, we'll give it serious consideration like we do with all our applicants."

Macclesfield have made a poor start to the season and currently stand just three points above bottom side Hartlepool.
