Harford says the fans understand the club's situation
Luton Town manager Mick Harford has thanked the Hatters fans who applauded his team off despite Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by Port Vale.
"I keep saying it, and I'll always say it, these fans are fantastic and they always get behind the team," Harford told BBC Three Counties Radio.
"They can see what is happening. It doesn't happen overnight and these things take time to evolve."
Troubled Luton had six players making their debuts against Vale.
But Harford said: "There was a great buzz around the place, the excitement was high, and I asked the players to respond and enjoy the experience because there was a great deal of media exposure given our plight.
"I think they took that on board, but unfortunately we couldn't turn all our possession and all our chances into a victory."
The six debutants were among 11 new signings approved by the Football League less than 48 hours before Saturday's League Two opener, as Luton, fresh out of administration, start the season on minus 30 points.
Harford says they are looking for more loan players, but are relying on favours from other clubs. No more signings are likely ahead of Tuesday night's Carling Cup tie at home to Plymouth Argyle.
