The 38-year-old was on target in the 3-1 victory over Gillingham, and also netted twice in their shock 3-0 Carling Cup victory over Sunderland.
Furlong moved to Kenilworth Road during the summer after his release by QPR.
The other contenders for the League One award were Leyton Orient's Sean Thornton, Leeds' Jermaine Beckford and Tranmere's Chris Greenacre.
