Kinnear leaves Luton

Kinnear took over in February 2001
Luton Town have parted company with manager Joe Kinnear and his assistant Mick Harford.

Kinnear has left in the wake of the Division Two club being taken over by a mystery consortium just three days ago.

He took over in February 2001 and, even though he could not save the club from relegation into the Third Division, he achieved promotion at the first attempt the following season.

Luton had hopes for a second straight promotion during the past campaign but finished ninth with a place in the play-offs proving out of reach.

The club confirmed that the decision would take immediate effect.

A statement on the club's website read: "There will be a board meeting on 27 May following which the new owners will be issuing a press statement."
