Hardy's Luton trial
Hardy will play for Luton's reserves as he tries to impress boss Joe Kinnear
Hardy is surplus to requirements at Port Vale
Port Vale defender Phil Hardy has joined Luton on trial with a view to a permanent move to Kenilworth Road.

Manager Brian Horton has told the transfer-listed 28-year-old he is surplus to requirements.

And Hardy will play for Luton in a reserve fixture on Wednesday, where he has a chance to impress Hatters boss Joe Kinnear.

Vale assistant coach Mark Grew said: "We've talked to Luton and they've agreed to have a look at him.

"He's on the transfer list, so he's free to go if they come in with an offer."

Hardy joined Vale from Wrexham last summer, but has not started a match for the club since November.

Luton need reinforcements at the back with injuries to Marvin Johnson, Russell Perrett and Chris Coyne.
