Clear-out begins at Luton
Joe Kinnear
Kinnear has begun implementing changes at Luton
Luton have begun a substantial clear-out at Kenilworth Road, with boss Joe Kinnear releasing five players and transfer-listing an additional four.

The Hatters are not yet relegated to Division Three, but Kinnear has already begun to shape the club's future, report BBC 3CR.

The first players to leave are goalkeeper Nathan Abbey, defenders Gavin McGowan and Freidrich Breitenfelder, midfielder Andre Scarlett and striker Rocky Baptiste.

Baptiste has already returned to non-league football, McGowan has spent most of his time at Luton in the physio's room, but Abbey's departure is perhaps a surprise after some sterling displays in goal this season behind a suspect defence.

Assessment

But Kinnear says another keeper is on the way, hinting that Mark Ovendale may not be the first choice next season.

Peter Thomson, Dean Brennan, Peter Holmes and Dean Standen are still under contract, but are all transfer-listed.

Kinnear said he was close to an agreement to keep defender Richard Dryden, and is hoping to persuade skipper Paul McLaren to stay, while former Spurs and QPR striker Steve Slade is to have a trial.
