Sack for Livingston manager Landi

Roberto Landi has been sacked as Livingston manager after only five months in the job at Almondvale.

A statement on the Division One club's website said that he and assistant Valter Belrini had been "relieved of their duties with immediate effect".

And they hope to have a new manager in place by the weekend.

Landi's departure came two days after Livi lost 2-1 to Third Division side East Stirlingshire in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

It meant that Livi missed out on a potentially lucrative tie as the Scottish Premier League clubs entered Monday's fourth-round draw.

Livi made a promising start to the league season, with Landi being First Division named manager of the month in August.

But they have slipped to fifth place, six points behind leaders St Johnstone.

The West Lothian club are also being sued for 330,000 by former owner Pearse Flynn and owe several thousand pounds to creditors.

Landi, who managed the Under-21 national sides of Lithuania, Qatar and Georgia, signed a two-year deal with the Lions in July following a takeover by a consortium from his Italian homeland.

Former Celtic, Dunfermline and Livingston boss Hay, whose son-in-law, Tomasso Angelini, is part of the ownership group, was brought in as a consultant to assist the 52-year-old.

Now Livingston hope to make a quick appointment to replace the departing Italian.

"Prospective candidates for the role as manager of Livingston FC are to be interviewed shortly in the hope that a new manager will be in place for this weekend's fixture with Dundee," said the club statement.

Landi's departure also comes only days after the signing of former Cannes and Metz midfielder Milan Thomas.

The Frenchman signed a short-term deal until the end of December after featuring twice as a trialist.
