Livi secure former Toon man Cave

Livingston

Livingston have signed former Newcastle United defender Phil Cave on a two-year contract after the left-back impressed during a trial spell.

The 21-year-old featured in the recent friendly against Celtic and was part of the squad for Saturday's Challenge Cup victory over Stranraer.

Cave emerged from the Newcastle academy system but was released from St James' Park in 2007.

He spent last season with Gateshead, where he netted 11 times from defence.

Livingston chairman Angelo Massone told his club website that the introduction of Cave will significantly strengthen Roberto Landi's side.

"It is important for the squad that we have players in competition for a place in the team," said Massone.

"We have already signed Jason Talbot for the left back position and, by adding Phil to the team, we hope to bring the best out of both players in the months to come."
