Liverpool players showing their desire - Jay Spearing

Spearing has added to his experience with 18 appearances this season

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing claims Monday's 5-2 win over Fulham is an indication of the players' desire to succeed at Anfield.

The Reds face Tottenham on Sunday in a battle for fifth in the Premier League.

"We're all fighting for places now and everyone wants to play well," Spearing, 22, told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"We want to end the season on a high and we've got to chase Tottenham. We showed against Fulham what we're all about and we want to finish high."

Fifth place carries a Europa League spot and is the last realistic chance for Liverpool and Spurs to compete on the continent next season.

Spearing, who signed a new contract at the club last Friday, admits the stakes are high ahead of Sunday's game and he knows Harry Redknapp's team will have their own point to prove.

"On their day they can turn it on if they want to," said the midfielder. "The amount of players they've got and the standard of players they've got means it's going to be a difficult game at Anfield.

"But we're the home team and if we play like we did against Fulham we'll put them under pressure.

"The game on Sunday is going to be massive. The Europa League is still a massive competition and Liverpool need to be attempting to win as much silverware as possible."
