Spanish winger Albert Riera has joined Greek club Olympiakos from Liverpool.

The 28-year-old completed a medical on Friday and signed a four-year deal, with Liverpool reportedly receiving £3.3m, potentially rising to £4.6m.

"During the last two years at Liverpool I didn't win any titles, so that's why I took the decision to come to Olympiakos, to win titles," he said.

"I have come to Olympiakos at the right time. I hope to help the team become one of the 10 best sides in Europe."

Riera joined Liverpool from Espanyol for £8m in 2008 but failed to command a regular place, scoring only five goals in 56 appearances.

He fell out of favour at Anfield last season after claiming that Liverpool was a "sinking ship" under former manager Rafael Benitez.

Riera was greeted by thousands of Olympiakos fans on Friday and admitted he was taken aback by the reception.

"I was told the fans were coming but what I saw was much more than I expected," he stated. "I did not expect so many people, honestly. It was a surprise for me.

"Such enthusiasm is good for the club. I understand how important the support of the people is, it's priceless."

Prior to joining Liverpool from Espanyol, Riera played for Bordeaux and Manchester City.
