Liverpool paid £20.3m to sign Keane from Tottenham in the summer
Liverpool striker Robbie Keane was jubilant after netting in Wednesday's win over PSV Eindhoven to finally open his account for the club.
In his 11th game for the Reds, Keane scored their second goal in a 3-1 Champions League Group D victory.
"I've got a monkey off my back," Keane said. "It's been a few games.
"It's always nice to get the first goal but I wasn't too worried, it was just people talking. I hope I score a lot more for this club."
Reds boss Rafa Benitez was full of praise for the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who signed from Tottenham for £20.3m in the summer.
"I was pleased for Robbie," Benitez said. "He has worked so hard for us that he deserved to score.
"Now he has got his first European goal for us, I hope he will now score his first Premier League goal.
"I know Robbie will score a lot more goals for us in the future, so this was just the first step for him."
Benitez also paid tribute to Steven Gerrard, who fired home a spectacular free-kick against the Dutch champions to reach his century of goals for Liverpool.
"For a midfielder to score 100 goals is very impressive. He is among the very best offensive midfield players anywhere," Benitez added.
"He is still young and he can maybe score 200 goals."
Liverpool are joint top of Group D with Atletico Madrid - who they face next in back-to-back fixtures - after taking six points from their first two matches for the first time in this competition.
They were comfortable winners against PSV and Benitez hopes his side can build on their current impressive form.
"It was almost the perfect night," the Reds boss explained.
"It was a really good game for us with lots of positive things, a solid performance with balance and quality.
"Now we must keep on winning. This is a very good start for us - different maybe from last season when we did not start our group matches that well."
