Voronin signs for Hertha Berlin

Hertha Berlin have signed Liverpool forward Andriy Voronin on a one-year loan deal.

The Ukraine international joined the Reds on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen a year ago but has failed to win a regular place in the first team.

In his time at Anfield, the 29-year-old has scored six goals in his 27 appearances for the club.

Voronin made his international debut against Romania in 2002 and has played at Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.

"We have worked very hard on this," Hertha general manager Dieter Hoeness told Berliner Morgenpost's website.

"We opted for Andriy because he knows the Bundesliga, he speaks German and he can play in a variety of different tactical systems.

"Andriy proved with Leverkusen and Liverpool that he can perform when under pressure. I am happy that we have found an experienced striker for our young team."

The impact of Fernando Torres restricted his first-team opportunities and Robbie Keane's arrival this summer forced him further down the pecking order.

He moves back to the Bundesliga, where he previously played for Bayer Leverkusen, Cologne, Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach.
