Liverpool chief in spending hint

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has hinted at more new arrivals before the transfer window shuts on 31 August.

"A lot of clubs have spent significant amounts of money this summer, like Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea," he told the club's website.

"Other clubs have had new investors. There is still a long way to go before the end of the transfer window.

"If a player becomes available and he is the right player for this club then yes, we will be interested."

The Reds have been one of the big spenders in this summer's transfer market as manager Rafael Benitez gears up to launch a Premier League title assault.

Forwards Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel, along with winger Yossi Benayoun and midfielder Lucas Leiva, have been the more high-profile signings.

The club are also trying to sign left-back Gabriel Heinze from Manchester United, who have made it clear they do not want to sell the player to their arch rivals.

Benitez's men are continuing their preparations for the new Premier League campaign, which starts on 11 August.

"There's always a lot expectation but there's definitely a special buzz about the upcoming season," added Parry.

"We're all excited with the new signings we've made and genuinely happy with what we've done.

"It was important to get them in as early as possible so that Rafa could have more time working with them. Bringing players in on the last day of the transfer window is never ideal.

"It was good for our new players to have been involved in the training camp out in Switzerland and then in Hong Kong."
