Finnan was signed by former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier in a £3.5m deal from Fulham four years ago.
He was part of the Liverpool teams that won the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup in 2006.
Finnan agreed the new deal before Liverpool's pre-season tour of Asia and has now signed the contract.
