Liverpool midfield man Boudewijn Zenden will be out for six weeks after undergoing surgery on his knee.
The 30-year-old suffered medial knee ligament damage in Saturday's 1-0 win against Manchester City.
Zenden missed much of last season with a knee injury, but boss Rafael Benitez said it was not the same problem.
He said: "Because it is the same knee, the decision has been made that he must have the operation. He will be out for between four and five weeks."
