Knee injury ends Mellor's season
Neil Mellor
Neil Mellor has become the fifth Liverpool player to be ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

The striker, who is suffering from tendinitis in both knees, will undergo surgery on Thursday.

It is a bitter blow for the 22-year-old, who has scored five goals in 16 games this season including vital goals against Arsenal and Olympiacos.

Djibril Cisse (leg), Chris Kirkland (back), Xabi Alonso (ankle) and Florent Sinama-Pongolle (knee) are also out.

Mellor scored a last-minute winner against Arsenal in the Premiership in November.

And he netted with five minutes remaining to help Liverpool to a vital 3-1 win over Olympiacos in the Champions League and a place in the last 16.
