Diao confirms Liverpool move
Salif Diao

Senegal midfielder Salif Diao has finally sealed his switch to English club Liverpool from Sedan.

Diao, one of Senegal's stars at the World Cup, will join the Premiership runners-up on a five-year contract in December for a fee of 7.5 million euros (just under 5m).

The 25-year-old joins compatriot El Hadji Diouf, who will complete his own move to Anfield from Lens once he passes a medical.

"I am really excited about going there," Diao said of his move.

"Playing in England and against all the big clubs is something I've always dreamed about, and now the time is arriving."

Many of the Senegalese talked openly of a desire to play in the Premiership when interviewed by journalists at the World Cup.

And Diao confirmed he was confident of taking the form that helped the Dakar Lions to the quarter-finals in Japan and Korea into the English domestic season.

"I know I will have to give my best there, and I will," he said.

"Hopefully I will win a lot of things with the Liverpool team."

Diao joined Sedan in 2000 having previously spent four years with Monaco.
