BBC Sport Online looks back at Liverpool's record in European finals.

Liverpool will play Spanish side Alaves in Dortmund on 16 May in what will be their ninth European final.

The have previously won four European Cups and two Uefa Cups, but have not been involved in a final since the Heysel tragedy 16 years ago.

Alan Kennedy was the hero once again as he scored the winner in the penalty shoot-out to beat Roma on their own ground.

1985 European Cup Final

The final will forever be overshadowed by the deaths of 38 people, mostly Juventus supporters, who died when a wall collapsed after Liverpool fans rioted. English clubs were subsequently banned from Europe for five years and Liverpool six.
