Liverpool have completed the signing of Finnish Under-21 striker Daniel Sjolund.

The youngster has joined from Premiership rivals West ham as part of the deal which saw Rigobert Song head the other way.

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier sees the 17-year-old as a player for the future and Sjolund has been handed a long-term Anfield deal.

But Sjolund may have to wait his turn behind Anfield youngster Richie Partridge, who has been tipped by Houllier to make a first team breakthrough in the near future.

"Of all the young players, he is the closest to the first team at the moment," Houllier told the club's website.

"He is quick, has good feet, and is very unpredictable in his dribbling.

"He can play on the left or right, and he can score goals.

"Maybe he needs a couple more years to develop fully but he's got talent and skills," Houllier added.
