Steve Tilson impressed by Lincoln City's ambition

Lincoln City's new manager Steve Tilson says the ambition of the club's board was a big factor in his decision to take the job at Sincil Bank.

Ex-Southend boss Tilson signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Imps.

He told BBC Lincolnshire: "I've been out of football since May so it was important to get back in.

"Having spoken to the chairman and the board, they're genuine people and they have ambition which was a big plus in taking the job."

Tilson spent seven seasons at Southend before being relieved of his duties and placed on gardening leave in the summer.

And he felt that he could repeat the success he had with the Shrimpers, with whom he earned successive promotions.

"I'm a positive person. It's a similar situation to when I took over at Southend and it might take a bit of time and we've got a bit to sort out, but given time I'm sure we can get Lincoln City back up into League One and eventually the Championship," he said.

Assistant manager Paul Brush, who was number two to Tilson at Roots Hall, added: "We're so up for starting to make this club better, to bring more people in and have more people talking about, thinking about and wanting to be around this football club.

"Young kids can have Manchester United as their second team but we want them to support Lincoln City and go to their matches.

"Steve was brilliant in the community at Southend, people wanted to be part of it and wanted to see success and we had a crowd who got on well with us because we got on well with them and that transferred to lifting the players."
