Lincoln City chairman Steff Wright to step down

Steff Wright
Wright has been chairman at Sincil Bank for five years

Lincoln City chairman Steff Wright has announced that he will step down at the end of the season.

Wright, who has been on the Imps board for nearly 10 years, has been chairman for half that time.

He told BBC Lincolnshire: "It's something I've been working towards this season.

"It's a time-consuming role so it's time for me to step down. But I am going to retain my shareholding and interest in Lincoln City."

The club's board elect are expected to choose a new chairman in June.

Imps manager Chris Sutton told BBC Look North:

"Steff Wright will be sorely missed as chairman. He was an integral part of the club, with good experience.

"But he's left the club in a stable financial position and that's solely down to Steff."

Sutton regrets chairman's departure

Wright correctly predicted a year ago that the economic downturn would lead to the threat of clubs going out of business, as has finally happened this season for Chester City.

He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "Football can't escape from what's going on with the economy.

"I think there will be more than one club in serious financial problems."
