Leyton Orient boss Martin Ling has decided against offering a contract to ex-Northampton defender Fred Murray.
The 25-year-old had joined the O's for pre-season following his release by the Cobblers at the end of last season, and he played in four of their friendlies.
However, Ling told the League One club's website: "Fred wasn't quite what we were looking for.
"He needs games after spending such a long time out injured, and that was a factor in deciding to let him go."
Meanwhile, Ling has appointed summer signing Stephen Purches as team captain, with fellow defender Alton Thelwell as club captain.
They replace last season's incumbents, former team skipper John Mackie and ex-club captain Matt Lockwood, who both left Brisbane Road over the summer.
