Pendlebury set for Leigh
Leigh RMI are set to sign defender Ian Pendlebury following his release from Wigan Athletic.

The 19-year-old full-back has been told he will not have his contract renewed at the JJB Stadium and has agreed to join the Railwaymen's fight for Nationwide Conference survival.

"I have been looking for a left-back for a while," said Leigh boss Mark Patterson.

"David Lee (Wigan's youth coach) has told me about him and I trust David. I've got him on his recommendation," added Patterson, a former team-mate of Lee at Bolton Wanderers and Bury.

Pendlebury came through the youth-ranks at Wigan and started four league games for the Latics last season.

However, he has not figured for the Second Division leaders this term and is set to make his Conference bow at Telford United on Saturday.

Patterson is also running the rule over teenage striker Michael Byrne following his release from the Academy at Bolton.
