Leicester City left-back Bruno Berner has signed a new one-year contract.

Berner seemed sure to leave in January as he was desperate to play first-team football having lost lost his place under new manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

But an injury to loan signing Greg Cunningham against Hull City on New Year's Day has seen Berner recalled.

Berner, 33, told BBC Radio Leicester: "I was glad to convince the gaffer one more time that I was up to the task of the challenge in the Championship."

The Swiss has impressed since coming on as a substitute against the Tigers, playing every game and also scored in the win over Swansea City.

Berner was offered a new contract by Eriksson before he returned to the starting line-up but was reluctant to sign if he was not a regular starter.

But he has retained his place despite the Foxes also signing versatile Manchester City defender Ben Mee on loan.
